Excitement for new beginnings

You guys it came … my seed catalog. I had just been saying to hubby the other day is it to soon to start planning the gardens? His response was “YES, it is there is still snow on the ground” all said with a huge smile on his face. He was probably thinking at 8 years ago let alone 4 I would never had asked that.

Now, I am only in the very beginning of winter here. I have a long time until I even start the seeds inside. However, I am excited to think about this years adventure! The picture of the backyard layout that is the featured image … is not to scale, it’s just a rough template for ideas. (Thanks Hubby!)

I sat and looked through the catalog and made a wish list. Then I got out the trusty gardening bible book also to help with my location decisions.

We will be doing tomatoes again, plus peppers, zucchini, squash, basil, asparagus, green beans (bush and pole), cucumbers (a slicing type not canning), and potatoes. We are going to attempt again strawberries (in a new planter), watermelon, and honeydew.

We are adding another raised garden and enlarging the small one in front of the shed, since the shed got bigger. Plus we will add an off the ground one for trying strawberries again! Then we are going to do two free-standing ones for the potatoes.

This year we are adding: sweet potatoes, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, corn ( we were going to do it last year and never got around to it), chives, and parsley.

We are also planning on adding wild flowers as well as two more rain barrels.

I am going to be busy weeding, watering, picking this spring and summer and I can’t wait.

This year we, hubby and I – he just doesn’t know it yet, are really going to track everything we do and prep so we can share with all of you!
